Co-Creator of Reality TV Mary-Ellis Bunim Dies of Cancer at Age 57
(February 1, 2004) After a long battle with cancer, Mary-Ellis Bunim, who with partner Jonathan Murray is credited with creating the modern reality television genre in 1987, died last Thursday in Burbank, California. Merging the documentary nature of news and the dramatic intrigue of soap operas, Bunim and Murray hatched an innovative idea for a dramatic series featuring real people rather than actors. That series became MTV's The Real World and marked the beginning of the reality television genre. As the mother of reality television, Bunim co-created Road Rules, The Love Cruise, Making the Band, The Real World Road Rules Challenge, the reality feature film The Real Cancun, the real-life daytime drama Starting Over, and The Simple Life. Have You Heard? Listen Up!
(March 15, 2004) We’d like to thank Heike, the founder and webmaster of IO Broadcast Network Affiliate Jadet-World.de (formerly O-Town-World.de), for sharing this news with us. After purchasing Natural’s latest album, It’s Only Natural, which was released in Germany today, she discovered when reading the CD booklet, that Dan Miller and Billy Chapin (O-Town’s lead guitarist) wrote one of the songs on the album, “Somedays and Mondays.” Also, Backstreet fans will be pleased to learn that Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough wrote the song on the album that is titled, "One Day Too Late." She also found this web page at Bravo.de that has samples of all of the album’s songs and this web page that has scans of the CD booklet. According to Trans Continental Records, the album is not currently scheduled for release in the US, but you can order the album through this page of amazon.com’s German site.

O-Town News Found in Popstar! and M Magazine
(March 15, 2004) We thank Steph for mentioning that Popstar! magazine published the news of O-Town’s break up on page 11 of their March issue: “O-Town is back. Not with more music, but with an official break-up letter, which they sent to the fab site InsideOTown.com.” You can read the entire article here.
Thanks go to Jen for letting us know that Popstar! included Ashley and Tiffany in their Eyewitness section of their April issue. There is a nice photo and mention of the two as they were seen at Teen People’s American Music Awards after-party last November. Finally, Jenn alerted us to the fact that O-Town’s breakup made the pages of the April issue of M Magazine. Excerpts from O-Town’s letter to their fans about their break up that Ashley gave to the Inside O-Town Broadcast Network were included.
