Dan Discusses
Upcoming Tour and More!
July 11, 2005
Dan kindly agreed to an interview with Inside O-Town to discuss the Boys of
Summer tour, which launches in San Diego this Wednesday, and answer some questions
about his new project and more. Here is what Dan had to say:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IO: We understand that you have been focusing some of your time
on songwriting. In fact, we wish to congratulate you on one of your songs,
"Insomniac," being picked up by the chart-topping Canadian artist
Shawn Desman and included in his latest album "Back for More." What
made you decide to make performing a priority now? Was it just that the opportunity
presented itself?
Dan: I really enjoy the behind the scenes stuff and I will definitely
pursue more of those opportunities in the future. But......in the two years
or so since the group broke up, I've just been stockpiling songs.....and there
were some that I felt really passionate about. So, with that being said, I
was going to pursue a solo project whether or not the opportunity to perform
at these shows came up.
IO: How did this tour come about? Who approached you and what reason did those
who sought you give for wanting you to be a part of this tour?
Dan: The idea came about to put a tour together with members of boy bands
of the past. House of Blues was excited about the idea and we put it together
from there.
IO: You mentioned in your latest message to fans that your set will be
about 30 minutes and will include your new material and a classic or two.
In which genre of music would you classify your new material? Will it be along
the R&B lines of "Insomniac"?
Dan: To be honest, I really don't wanna give too much away. However, I can
say that I will be perfoming in a way that you have never seen me before.....and
we'll leave it at that.
IO: In April, you mentioned that you have a website in the works. Can you
now tell us its domain name/address? Can you give us an idea of when it will
go live? Will it have samples of your new material?
Dan: Sorry, the website is still in the works.
IO: Fans worldwide continue to email us and post that they miss you and
can't wait to see and hear you. Will fans worldwide be able to buy an album
or EP of your music online and/or your songs as downloads?
Dan: At this point, I hope to have some CD's available at some of the shows.
And I also plan to sell online through iTunes/Amazon, etc. I will definitely
give updates on that periodically.
IO: What experiences are you looking forward to when returning to the tour
circuit?
Dan: I spent so much time laying low recently that I just wanna get out
and be on stage.
IO: You also said in April's message, "As you probably know, I spent
some of my time songwriting for other artists but what you didn't know, is
that I spent MOST of my time working on songs for a new project." Is
this tour the new project you were referring to? If not, can you now tell
us a bit more about your project?
Dan: The project is my new musical career from here on out.
IO: How is your wife, Erin and your pet yorkie, Bucko? What sort of activities
are they pursuing at the moment?
Dan: Erin is doing great. She is back in school now.....pursuing her masters
degree. You will most likely be able to catch her at a couple upcoming shows.
Bucko is good as well......however he is not available for comment due to
his heavy schedule of sleeping and chewing bones.
IO: What can your fans do to support you as a solo singer, songwriter and
performer at this point?
Dan: For starters, they can all bring 2 or 3 friends to any of these House
of Blues shows coming up. And in the future, just continue to be patient and
supportive. Music is an art and I never want to compromise that.
