Recalling the treasured but few occasions during “Making the Band” when Jacob expressed his opinions and his strong system of values and artistic creativity with refreshing honesty and passionate conviction, the IJL crew knew there was a lot more to Jacob’s Loc besides great songs with catchy hooks and dynamic performances. With this in mind, we set out to dig deeper into the band's vision statement, music, lyrics and more to find the heart and soul of Jacob’s Loc.

Perhaps some may see the same symbolism in the mic stand Jacob created as a member of our crew perceived when she first saw it - the chains that once bound Jacob to a cookie-cutter endeavor manufactured by the entertainment industry now serve him as a form of his artistic expression rather than being a device that restrains him. We thank Jacob for taking the time to share a bit more about what is inside Jacob’s Loc.

IJL: This vision statement can be found on your website: “To create influential art, music, poetry, visual and physical expressions of not just our time, but the best reflections of the past. Jacob’s Loc will be the much-needed voice in a generation of sheep.” We have three questions for you on this.

In what ways does Jacob’s Loc want to influence those who experience its music and art?

Jacob: We want to be a voice of positive reinforcement for so many of our generation that seem to be caught up in the negative. I want to be uplifting with our music and presence. We want to be a distraction from the bullshit, at the same time be honest about the way we feel about it.

IJL: Would you describe what “best reflections of the past” means in your terms and why it is a relevant element of Jacob’s Loc?

Jacob: We feel the element of rock and roll that is being missed is the feel good, let loose, party atmosphere. I have been to too many shows where the audience just stands and watches. Now part of that has to do with the music being created, but again I'm trying not to be negative. Our music is built on the groove, so it's contagious and very easy for us to get you up on your feet. You also can't help but notice our core based on southern blues.
