IJL: As the much-needed voice, what do you/Jacob’s Loc have to say to this generation?

Jacob: It has to do with speaking, too, in the sense I spoke of before (being positive), but by that I really meant speaking for [them]. We've gotten a lot of heat for being apathetic and I know too many people in my generation that care too much. [Jacob’s Loc is] a voice for the way we feel. Also being a Christian in this day and age and the perspective I hold on the world state. There has been a total neglect for the church and its power. But at the same time you can look at so many churches with unfit leaders. I feel God is very active in our world today and the one thing we should all be doing is acknowledging this.

IJL: Why did you choose Jacob’s Loc for the band’s name? Does the "Loc" have more than one meaning?

Jacob: The LOC represents our family. The same concept behind a lock of hair (many [strands] come together to form one strong [lock]). But there is also an acronym applied, Love of Christ.

IJL: Would you tell us a bit about your specific inspirations for and meanings in these songs? In “When We Die,” you say “I wanna look myself in the mirror and know that I put up a damn good fight…and know that I tried to do what's right…that I live for what was right.” Would you tell us a bit about your fight and what you believe is right to do and live for?

Jacob: Our life is a constant battle. I don't mean to get to heaven--that's the easy part. It's being a good disciple and continuing to grow in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jacob on what he/Jacob’s Loc have to say to this generation: “…by that I really meant speaking for…I know too many people in my generation that care too much. [Jacob’s Loc is] a voice for the way we feel.”

Jacob's signature dreadlocks represent one of the meanings behind the band's name...many strands coming together to form one strong lock of hair, much like family members uniting to form one strong family unit.

Asked to define his fight and what he believes is right to do and live for as mentioned in "When We Die," Jacob explained, "It's being a good disciple and continuing to grow in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ."
