The group first came together in November, 1999 after TransContinentals Lou Pearlman initiated a nationwide talent search. The long auditioning process, which took place in eight cities across the US, culminated in eight young performers being chosen (out of 1,800 candidates) to take part in the MTV/ABC series "Making the Band", a reality show designed to let the public see behind the scenes of the music industry. At the end of the first season of the show, five of the eight performers were chosen to form the band, with original O-Town member Ikaika Kahoano eventually leaving the group to make way for Dan Miller.
The first reality series to feature a returning cast, Making the Band lasted for three seasons and chronicled the months of hard work involved in transforming Ashley Parker Angel, Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller, Trevor Penick and Jacob Underwood into a tightly knit unit. In August, 2000, O-Town was signed by industry legend Clive Davis to his new label J Records and began recording with top writers and producers, including Warryn Campbell, Diane Warren, Steve Kipner, Steve Mac and Desmond Child.
Their debut single, Liquid Dreams (January 2001), was a staple on MTVs TRL countdown as were the videos for All or Nothing (April 2001) and We Fit Together (September 2001). During the last two years the group has toured extensively across the US, Canada and Europe, headlining their own tours and one with Britney Spears, as well as making dozens of TV appearances including Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kelly, The View and Montel. Intense audience reactions at their live shows have confirmed the band, who now perform with three of its members on guitar and one on piano, as a pop powerhouse with a solid and growing fan base.
Following the debut of the lead single, These Are The Days, fans are now enjoying O-Towns much anticipated sophomore CD, O2, released on November 12, 2002. The group has shown impressive songwriting skills, having penned approximately half of the tracks on the new album, and has also teamed up with multi-platinum recording artist Nelly on Favorite Girl and with Shep Crawford on "I Showed Her".
